The warmth and sunshine are finally shining in Michigan. School is wrapping up for my kids. And the patio is prepped for the new season. Meaning now it’s time to gather up all the best ingredients to kick off an amazing and wonderful summer!
The first thing on that list? Break out the charcoal grill. I love that those little briquettes remind us to take the time to savor this season. I also love the food it proves that point on with.
Because the only thing better than sharing great burgers is sharing great barbecue. And when the burgers are the barbecue? Well pass me the lemonade, and let me just kick off my sandals. Have I got a good recipe to perk up your plate!
Turns out I hopped over to Sam’s Club the other day and discovered the sweet existence of KC Masterpiece® BBQ Sauce Mix & Dry Rub. This modest box of 6, 2oz pouches will transform your barbecue agenda. Because each pouch allows you to customize your sauce or marinade. Options are endless when juice, soda, coffee, as well as any beer or liquor libation is added to the base dry rub.
I don’t know about you but I stood there salivating. Images of smoking grills, hot meats, and tall glasses of Simply Lemonade® danced in my brain. I had just about envisioned ice filled coolers of Gold Peak® Tea and Coca-Cola® de Mexico Glass Bottles when the kids reminded me why I like to shop alone.
So with images of summer entertaining dancing in my brain, I stocked up for summer and headed home. I couldn’t wait to create my own Coca-Cola and Coffee BBQ sauce. And with the weekend looming I wasn’t going to have to wait long. And the instructions to do so were easy!
In just three steps…empty one pouch of the KC Masterpiece® BBQ Sauce Mix & Dry Rub into a bowl. Which makes it really great to customize your meal to taste exactly how you like.
Next, add 3/4 cup of liquid. To which I decided to pour in 1/2 cup Coca-Cola® de Mexico and 1/4 cup (2oz) concentrated coffee. Beyond the cute glass bottles, Coca-Cola de Mexico is made with cane sugar and not high fructose corn syrup. Which balances the bitterness of the coffee very well.
Lastly, whisk or stir your new BBQ mix until well blended. Then slather onto delicious grilled meats at will.
- 1 2oz pouch of KC Masterpiece® BBQ Sauce Mix & Dry Rub
- 1/2 cup Coca-Cola® de Mexico
- 1/4 cup concentrated coffee
- Empty contents of one pouch into mixing bowl.
- Add coffee and Coca-Cola
- Whisk or mix until well blended.
What I also love doing is working with the dry rub. I’m a big fan of pub style burgers. But I don’t like to overwork the meat to integrate the seasoning, so after forming the burger, just roll the edges in the rub. Toss on the grill and kick back to absorb the sounds and scents of summer.
Personally, I also enjoy burgers topped with a thick cut peppered bacon. Whether you keep it as strips or weave it. Your burger is going to be mouthwatering.
And please let’s not forget the cheddar cheese and soft, fluffy buns.
So once your table is set and the charcoal is hot, toss your edge rubbed burgers on the grill to your desired doneness. The edges will crust up great with the added BBQ Mix along the edges.
Then plate up your finished burgers and bring it back to the table to stack on the goodness. That of course includes your custom made Coca-Cola Coffee BBQ sauce.
Which quite frankly is amazing drizzled like a glue in between your layers of burger, cheese and bacon weave.
Pair it up with a slushy glass of lemonade by freezing your Simply Lemonade® before you toss it in the cooler. An all-natural lemonade with no added preservatives colors or artificial flavors, its a refreshing alternative to making my own.
Summer on the patio doesn’t get any sweeter than this. Now are your taste-buds ready to fire up the grill too? Then be sure to check out these Coca-Cola and KC Masterpiece pantry staples at Sam’s Club. And let me know what you think of the burger when you serve it up!
